The Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth founded Marian Clinic in Topeka, Kansas in 1988 as a unique response to documented need for medical and (later) dental care for the uninsured and under-insured in our community.
Marion Clinic Mission Satement:
We will, in the spirit of hte Sisters of Charity reveal God's healing love by improving the health of the individuals and communities we serve, especially those who are poor or vulnerable.
The Need
When you're uninsured, life turns out differently.
The uninsured are not strangers. They are men and women, children and families who live and work, who study and play in our community.
You see them. You know them. Yet, sometimes they are invisible.
You miss the frustration, the pain or worry, because a health care gap separates insured from uninsured, separates comfortable lives from lives on the edge.
The health care gap is indifferent. It rations care. It denies humanity.
Most people believe in their hearts that people should help each other.
People look for ways to bridge the gap between indifference and compassion, between illness and healthier lives.
Marian Clinic is a bridge bringing the uninsured to a place of wellness and hope.
It is a place of welcome, of comfort, of healing. A place where nurses become allies and advocates, where doctors say "Thank you for coming…it has been a pleasure to take care of you."
It is a place where poverty does not restrict access, anticipation replaces uncertainty, care becomes affordable, and hope comes alive.
